McKee Contributes to Affordable Housing Debate

Dr Kim McKee, and colleagues from Sheffield Hallam and Sheffield Universities, presented findings from their research on affordable housing need at a roundtable discussion of key Scottish housing experts.

Commissioned by Shelter Scotland, the Chartered Institute of Housing Scotland and the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations the research aimed to provide an estimate of affordable housing need across Scotland as a whole.  It updates a previous exercise conducted almost a decade ago for the Scottish Government.

The routable discussion held in Edinburgh on the 11th August enabled the research team (Powell, Ferrari and McKee) to present their findings in more detail, explaining the methodology adopted.  This was followed by break-out group discussions centred around the findings and their implications for Scotland's affordable housing programme going forward.

The final report will soon be published by Shelter Scotland.  Delegates on the day were drawn from organisations including the Scottish Government, the Scottish Housing Regulator, the Wheatley Group, RTPI, GWSF, SHBVN, and Homes for Scotland.
